Recap:
Well, good morning, church! I’m so glad to be here with you today. For those of you I haven’t met yet, I’m Pastor Nick, the NextGen pastor here at Cross Points. I oversee our kids and youth teams, but every once in a while, I get the privilege of stepping up to teach—and today is one of those days.
We’re in our Generational Wealth series. Pastor David started us off last week with a powerful word about the Prodigal Son and how God calls us back into His family. If you missed it, go back and watch it—it lays the foundation for where we’re going in this whole series.
Our heart is this: we want to be a people who leave a legacy of spiritual wealth. A legacy that outlives us. A legacy that impacts generations to come. And God gives us everything we need to do it.
Today, I want to talk about multiplication. How do we multiply our faith? How do we replicate what God is doing in us in someone else’s life? As I was preparing, I prayed, “Lord, how do I speak to people at every stage—those brand new to faith and those who’ve walked with You for decades?” And I felt like God said, “Keep it simple.” So I’m going to keep this really simple today, because I believe God has a word for every single one of us.
Our anchor verse for this series is Psalm 145:4:
“One generation will loudly praise Your works to another and will declare Your mighty acts.”
This isn’t about us being the hero. This is about lifting up God’s name, not ours. Our legacy is His glory.
Let me tell you a story. This summer, we drove all the way to Toronto—over 40 hours in the car—because apparently I like long road trips! Along the way, we visited someone really special to me: Miss Peggy. Back in college, when I played summer baseball, Peggy was my host mom. She loved me, prayed for me, and invested in my faith. She’s hosted 47 players over the years, and even after losing her husband Howard last December, she kept hosting and pouring into young men.
As we sat around her kitchen table, I thought, “This woman is a catalyst of generational wealth.” She may never know the ripple effect of her investment on this side of eternity, but I’m living proof of it. That’s multiplication. That’s discipleship.
Our text today is 2 Timothy 1:5-7. Paul writes to Timothy about the faith that lived first in his grandmother Lois, then his mother Eunice, and now in him. That’s spiritual inheritance! And Paul, as a spiritual father, added to that legacy. You see both family discipleship and missional discipleship at work.
So how do we multiply our faith like that? Here are two simple steps:
1. Become a disciple.
You can’t make disciples if you’re not one yourself. Being a disciple means humbling yourself, letting others speak into your life, and letting Jesus refine you. Some of us have been following Jesus for years but we’re coasting. Others are just starting out. Wherever you are, start here:
- Stay humble. Luke 9:23 says, “Take up your cross daily and follow Me.” Discipleship begins with humility.
- Reject a spiritual poverty mindset. Don’t settle for spiritual scraps when Jesus is offering you the riches of His kingdom.
- Let the fire refine you. Like steel in the fire, discipleship strengthens us through the refining work of the Holy Spirit.
I’ve seen this firsthand in my own dad. I didn’t know him before Christ, but I watched him walk through years of transformation. He started our family’s spiritual legacy, and I get to carry that forward for my kids. That’s generational wealth.
2. Be a disciple who makes disciples.
Jesus’ Great Commission is clear: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Discipleship isn’t complicated. It’s walking with someone, like Peggy did for me. It’s inviting someone into your life, sharing what God has done, and helping them grow step by step.
You don’t have to be a superstar Christian—you just need to be one step ahead of someone else. True discipleship is about relationship. It’s about walking with people, not pushing them.
And never stop believing in the power of God to change lives. Peggy prayed for her husband Howard for 35 years. He finally gave his life to Jesus just six months before he died. He went from resisting the gospel his whole life to walking streets of gold because one woman never gave up. That’s the fruit of a faithful life.
So here’s my challenge:
- Who in your life needs you to walk with them?
- Who can you invest in, pray for, and love like Jesus?
- Will you be the start of a new spiritual legacy in your family or circle of influence?
This is our call: Be a disciple. Make disciples. Leave a legacy of faith.
Let’s pray:
“Father, thank You for inviting us into Your kingdom story. Give us boldness to step into discipleship, humility to be refined, and vision to multiply our faith. May generations to come know Your mighty acts because of what You do through us today. Amen.”
