Recap:
This morning, I want you to pause and really think about this question:
Do you believe that God still speaks today?
Not just that He can speak, but that He wants to speak, to you.
We didn’t show up today to passively listen or check a box before heading home to watch the Chiefs. We’re here because the God of heaven has something specific to say to you if you’ll lean in and listen.
So let’s take a moment and ask Him to speak. Because faith says, “God, I believe You exist, and You reward those who seek You.”
Lord, we lift our hands in faith. Speak to our hearts. We’re listening. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Every Believer Has a Calling
Every follower of Jesus carries two callings: one general and one specific.
The general calling is the same for every believer.
You’re called to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
You’re called to love people.
You’re called to pray, to worship, and to share the good news of what God’s done in your life.
That’s not just for pastors or missionaries, it’s for you.
If God’s done something good in your life, you’re called to tell someone about it.
You’re called to live on mission right where you are.
Every Believer Has a Specific Calling
But then there’s the specific calling, the unique way God wired you.
Some of you are builders. Some are teachers, creatives, caregivers, business leaders, students, or stay-at-home parents.
Whatever your field, whatever your talent, God placed it in you on purpose for His purpose.
Your work is not just physical, it’s spiritual.
Paul said in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for people.”
That means when you go to work tomorrow, you’re not just working for a paycheck, you’re working for God.
He’s your real boss.
And how you work reflects who you believe He is.
Every Church Has a Calling
Just like people have callings, churches do too.
Every church has a general calling, to love, serve, preach, and worship.
But every church also has a specific calling, a God-given DNA.
For Cross Points Church, that calling has always been missions and church planting.
Our Missions Calling
For almost 50 years, this church has been sending missionaries around the world, from Australia to Zimbabwe.
We’ve invested millions of dollars to take the gospel to the ends of the earth.
That’s not something to boast about, it’s something to thank God for.
He’s the one who gave us this calling and the grace to fulfill it.
And we’re not done yet.
God’s still calling us to send more missionaries and give more generously than ever before, until every nation knows that our God reigns.
Our Church Planting Calling
But that’s not all.
From the very beginning, God spoke a prophetic word over this house:
That fires would spread from this place, to the north, south, east, and west.
We saw that happen years ago as churches were planted across our city. But then… things slowed down.
Pain, pride, and failure crept in.
The vision faded.
And like Israel in the days of Haggai, we stopped building the house.
But I believe God is saying again today:
Be strong. Get to work. I am with you.
Just as God promised Israel, “The glory of the latter house will be greater than the former,” I believe He’s saying that over Cross Points Church right now.
What’s coming will outshine what’s been.
What It Will Take
This next move of God will take all of us.
Every musician, small group leader, children’s worker, youth volunteer, tech team member, business leader, prayer warrior, mom, dad, student, every single one of us has a part to play.
If you’re breathing, God needs you in this house.
He’s calling you to help build what He’s building.
A New Partnership: Casa de Alabanza
And today, we’re already seeing that calling come to life.
A few months ago, what started as a simple cold call turned into a divine connection.
Pastors José and Sandra Escrega, who have faithfully led Casa de Alabanza for 17 years, met with us, and it was clear the Holy Spirit was weaving our stories together.
Now, they’re meeting right here in our building every Sunday at noon, reaching the Hispanic community of Johnson County with the gospel.
They’ve joined our ConnectKC church planting network, and together we’re declaring:
The latter glory will be greater than the former.
Closing Charge
Church, this is our moment.
It’s time to rebuild the house.
It’s time to reignite the fire.
It’s time to be strong, get to work, and believe that God is with us.
Because He is, and He’s not finished yet.
The best days of Cross Points Church are still ahead.
Our God reigns.
