Recap:
Last week, we heard that the Holy Spirit brings order to chaos. And if we’re honest, we all know what that chaos feels like. Life can be beautiful one moment, peaceful, steady, even joyful, and then suddenly everything shifts. A phone call. A problem. A moment you didn’t expect. And just like that, you go from standing on the mountaintop to feeling surrounded by noise, confusion, and pressure.
That’s real life.
But here’s the truth, God is not distant in those moments. He is hovering over the chaos, just like He was in the beginning. He is near. He is present. He is working. And yet, even knowing that, there’s a lie many of us carry. It’s the quiet thought that says: “This isn’t for me.” We look at others, people who seem more spiritual, more put together, more “ready”, and we convince ourselves that the peace of God, the presence of God, the Spirit of God… is reserved for them.
Not us. We feel like we don’t have what it takes. Like we’re missing something. Like we’re standing at the door, watching everyone else step into what God has for them, while we stay back thinking, “I’m not ready.” But that’s not truth. That’s the enemy, because Scripture tells a completely different story.
In Joel 2, God speaks to people in the middle of devastation, people surrounded by loss, chaos, and emptiness, and He says: I will restore you. And not only that, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Not some people, not perfect people, not “church people,” all people. And that word “pour” matters. It’s not a drop. It’s not a portion. It’s not reserved like fine dishes for special occasions. It’s abundance, it’s overflow, it’s God saying, “I’m not holding back from you, I’m giving you everything.” And when His Spirit comes, it doesn’t just make you feel something, it transforms you. It changes you from the inside out.
That’s what Ezekiel describes, a new heart, a new spirit, a life that is no longer defined by who you were, but shaped by who God is making you to be. God isn’t interested in behavior management, he’s after transformation. And then we see the picture, Ezekiel standing in a valley of dry bones. Lifeless. Empty. Gone. And God asks, “Can these live again?” It seems impossible, but then God speaks. And the bones begin to rattle, they come together, flesh forms, and skin covers them. But there’s still no life… until God breathes. And in a moment, what was dead stands alive again.
That’s what the Spirit of God does, he meets us in dead places. Places we’ve written off, dreams we’ve buried, pain we’ve avoided. And He says, “I’m not done here.” He rebuilds what was broken, taking the very things we thought could never be restored and making them new. And most importantly, He brings real life. Because you can look fine on the outside and still feel empty inside. You can go through the motions, say the right things, even show up to church… and still feel like something is missing.
That’s what those bones were, put together, but lifeless, until the Spirit came. And maybe that’s where some of us are today: tired, empty, stuck, holding onto hurt, carrying bitterness, and wondering if things will ever change. And God is saying, “I want to meet you right there.” Not when you clean it up, not when you get it together, not when you feel ready. Right there, in this moment, because His Spirit isn’t reserved, it’s poured out. For you. For the one who feels disqualified, for the one who feels empty, for the one who feels stuck. And when He pours it out, everything changes. He softens hard hearts, he lifts what feels heavy, he breathes life into what feels dead. This isn’t just a message, it’s an invitation.
An invitation to stop believing the lie that “this isn’t for me” and step into the truth that says: God’s Spirit is for you. His presence is for you. His transformation is for you. And today, He’s still pouring it out.
