What Can I Do?

Ways to Help

In the grand scheme  of things, what can I do? Many people ask this question and never seem to find an answer.  This generally keeps them from participating in the most dynamic movement God has to offer - World Missions!

To get involved, there are four simple things anyone can do.  Below are four words: GO, GIVE, GROW, and GROAN.  These four little words, actively applied to your heart, will change your perspective on life and thrust you into an exciting movement started by God, Himself.

Go.
Pray about your part in the Great Commission!  Is God calling you to the mission field full-time?  If so, call the church office and make an appointment with the Missions Pastor.

Participate in one of the many short-term trips offered throughout the year.  One of the visions of Cross Points Church is that every member participate in a short-term trip.

Give.
Plan to give regular financial support to the missions fund through Faith Promise, over your regular tithe. Pray about giving to our Thanksgiving offering.

Respond to special needs of missionaries throughout the year-for special projects, personal needs or emergencies.

Help send others by contributing to the Short-Term Missions Scholarship Fund. Make checks payable to Cross Points, and place in the offering box.

Grow
Take advantage of the many Missions books in the Cross Points Library.  There are dozens of resources available to aid your education of missions. Become part of the Missions Network and focus your prayer and service on one of the regions where we have missionaries stationed.

Groan
Use this website as a resource to pray for one or more of our Cross Points missionaries on a daily basis.

Get Involved

To be involved in the Missions Department, be sure to check out these areas of ministry:
  1. Africa Net – Providing a prayer covering and encouragement for missionaries and missionary families serving on the continent of Africa and others. Currently we meet on the third Sunday of every month right after church.  We started out with just the Bramletts and the Kingsburys but we now also serve Bob Mendelsohn (Jews for Jesus), Mark and Lori Traver (Youth With A Mission - Nashville), Roger and Laureen Traver (Mountain Top Marriages),  and Andrew Kimaro. At our meetings we pray for their requests and also their praise reports.  Basically, we serve our missionaries in any way that we can as we lift them up before God.   Deak and Barb Thornton 913-724-1955, e-mail - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 2. Asia/EuroNet – Intercessory Group for Cross Points missionaries serving in Asia and Europe.
Once a month, the ministry meets to hear the latest reports from our missionaries who minister in China, Taiwan, India, Vietnam, and Cambodia and in other countries through Wycliffe Bible Translators and Youth With A Mission. We start with worship and encourage them through intercessory prayer. Wolfgang & Betty Jo Simon, 913-888-4706, e-mail - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 3. LatinNet –Intercessory Group for Cross Points missionaries serving in Latin, South America and other Spanish speaking nations.  Meeting once each month, this ministry maintains contact with the missionaries and missionary families in Spanish-speaking countries.  This contact provides the opportunity for prayer, encouragement and communicating these missionaries’ needs to the church body. David and Merejo Dussair, 913-722-1443 or 913-244-2992, e-mail - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

  4. Angel Tree – A seasonal ministry enabling Cross Pointers to bless a prison inmate by providing their child with a Christmas gift in the incarcerated parent’s name.  Through Prison Fellowship Ministries, inmates can request a gift for their child.  Through Angel Tree, Cross Pointers who wish to bless these children may provide a gift that will then be presented to the child in the prisoner’s name. Ann Basgall, 913-441-2131, e-mail - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

  5. Operation Christmas Child – A Cross Points ministry in conjunction with Samaritan’s Purse providing gifts to children in Third World countries.  This seasonal (October-November) ministry affords Cross Pointers the opportunity to fill a normal shoebox with art/school supplies, basic hygiene products, toys and a publication in their own language presenting the Christmas Story and the Gospel.  The boxes are collected, shipped to Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse which, in turn, distributes them to needy children in under-developed countries.  Carole Pyle, 913-268-7544.
